Garman Builders was presented with a unique challenge to help restore and remodel an original 1778 stone farmhouse. The homeowners desired to restore as much as possible of the 2,332 square foot home, including the original stonework, solid wood floors, and the hearth and mantle while updating the space to meet the needs of the family, including adding a 3-car garage and master suite, bringing the final square footage to just over 4,000.
The challenge faced with preserving a 200+-year-old home is the structural integrity of the building. Structural engineers became integral in ensuring the home was shored up and stable. Recommended cabeling was installed in the bottom and top thirds of the house, and the cabling was integrated into the design. Every floorboard of the home was also removed, refinished, and reinstalled to maintain the historical beauty.
