Spring Home Show & Parade of Homes
The BIA produces two of the largest consumer home events in the area. The Spring Home Show is held at F&M College each March and features over 200 booths filled with exhibitors displaying their building, remodeling, and home improvement. The Parade occurs during a week each June and features new homes that compete for awards and are then are open to the public for tours and more. Member prices are half those of non-members. New in 2011: Be Part of the Street of Dreams, a single-site showcase of beautiful new homes open to the public for one week in September!
Advocacy on your behalf
Members have access to our Government Affairs staff, who can help answer your questions about code and legislative issues, and even mediate between members and municipalities to help ensure smoother sailing for their projects. We even have model contracts available in compliance with PA’s new Home Improvement Contractor Registration Law, saving you time and money. Jack Phillips, our Government Affairs Director, is always on hand to address your concerns or answer questions about laws, codes, and other issues that affect you, so don’t hesitate to call and ask for him! The BIA is also actively involved in advocating for industry interests on the local, state, and national levels, with many victories to show for it. Additionally, members can get free legal advice through the National Association of Home Builders’ Legal Services Department.
Targeted marketing opportunities
You can reach out to our members and help get the word out about your services through event sponsorships; advertising in our newsletter magazine (Lancaster Builder), Directory, or Guidebooks; Using our mailing list (Excel spreadsheets of our entire membership are offered to you for free); Hosting a BIA Mixer; Participating in our Member Marketplace exclusive discount program, and more.
Professional Councils
Join the Remodelers Council or Green Building Council to meet periodically with like-minded professionals and discuss topics of specific interest to you, so you can stay on the cutting edge of your industry.
Education & professional development
The BIA helps bring you many great educational opportunities, in partnership with ABC Keystone, our neighboring associations, and the National Association of Home Builders on everything from forklifts to foremen to finances. We also periodically offer the EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule Certified Renovator Courses, now required for remodelers working on most homes built before 1978. Even our members offer seminars and training sessions to their fellow members on subjects in which they have expertise!
Industry news and information
As a member, you have access to a wealth of information, research, best practices, tips and trends, and advice. One of the best ways to access that is through NAHB’s website. Log on to www.nahb.org and check out all of the subscriptions and information available to you (you can go to the Tools, Housing Topics, or Publications & Subscriptions sections to get started). Additionally, our staff – as well as the staff at the state and national associations - is available to answer many questions that you might have.
Listed as a professional
We often receive calls from consumers wanting to find a reputable member contractor to help them with their home project. Plus, the first place many of our members look when determining with whom to do business is our Directory. If you’re not listed in our directory, you’re missing that potential business.
